    Substitute Teacher Requirements

    To be considered to become a substitute in Grand Saline ISD you must complete the in person substitute training.

 Description: Prepare, plan, and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, 
materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of difference in learning styles.  Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
 
 Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree from accredited university. 
2. Valid Texas Teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned. 
3. Knowledge of subjects assigned. 
4. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction. 
5. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. 
6. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

 Description: Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Develop or modify curriculum and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to match student ability levels.  Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
 Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.  Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education in grade level assigned.  Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation.  Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs, Effective Communication skills.

 Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or its equivalent; Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements; Must demonstrate competency in the core academic subject area assigned and teaching methods to be applied; Must demonstrate ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; Must demonstrate strong supervisory, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
 
 
Speech Language Pathology Assistant

 Description: To assist in providing speech and other related service to students.
 
 Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s degree; 
2. Valid Texas license as a speech language pathology assistant granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology; 
3. Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders

 Description: Speech Therapy Assistant Supervision; Caseload Management; Speech Evaluations and Speech Re-evaluations
 

 Qualifications:  Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology; Texas State Licensure for Speech Language Pathology; American Speech Hearing Association License (ASHA); Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC); American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) membership; At least three years experience as a Speech Language Pathologist; Such alternatives as to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.
 
 

Bilingual Teacher

Bus Driver
 Location: Transportation Department

 Description: Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations.
 Qualifications: Positive attitude
Ability to keep a pleasant disposition while working with children of all ages
Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B)

Substitute Cafeteria
 Location: Cafeteria Department

 Description: GSISD needs to have personnel available to fill in when regular cutodians are out of District. 
 Qualifications: Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions,
working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures,
ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools, ability to
perform basic math, knowledge of food service helpful.

Substitute Custodian

 Description: GSISD needs to have personnel available to fill in when regular cutodians are out of District. 
 Qualifications: Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures;  Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance; Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment; ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.  Experience Preferred

Substitute Bus Driver

 Description: GSISD needs have personnel available to drive when regular bus drivers are out of District. Candidate must be able to pass background check as well as alcohol and drug test. 
 Qualifications: Positive attitude

 School Bus Driver Certification
