Special Education

CHILD FIND: Grand Saline Independent School provides comprehensive special education services to eligible students. Services are provided for students ages 3 through 21 years and children from birth through age 21 years who have hearing or visual impairments.

Evaluations in the schools are provided for the following areas of suspected disability:

Visual Impairment
Learning Disability
Auditory Impairment
Speech Impairment
Emotional Disturbance

Orthopedic Impairment 
Other Health Impaired 
Multiple Disabilities
Intellectual Disability  
Traumatic Brain Injury

All referrals are considered confidential and services are provided at no cost to parents. A free, appropriate, public education with a full continuum of services is available. Children birth to 3 years old with other disabilities are referred to appropriate agencies for services.

Consideration of a student's need for special education can be initiated by a parent, guardian, teacher, physician, community agency, or other appropriate individuals. The Special Education Information Center (SPEDTex) provides resources and interactive features for increasing family awareness of disabilities and special education processes, with the goal of improving partnerships between schools and families.
